LAL Cape Town moved to bigger and better premises!

South Africa will get more and more attention worldwide leading up to the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup and the country is getting ready for the increasing flow of visitors. Our school in Cape Town is already prepared for this event – the move to newer and more modern premises is now completed. Karl Ruetti, Managing Director of LAL Cape Town: “We have been in the new building for a good month now. Everybody has settled in and the students very much enjoy the possibility of having their accommodation on-site. Free WIFI is available throughout the school and the students can choose between a great variety of lunches in the school cafeteria. There are many shops and restaurants in the neighbourhood and the famous boardwalk can be reached within 3 minutes by foot.”

LAL’s Managing Director Peter Cassalette attended the grand opening party on April 25: „We have been looking for an even better building for our Cape Town school and residence for a while and have now found the truly perfect new home, on the site of a long-established lodge. The location and furnishing are excellent and language students from all over the world will feel welcome in this cozy atmosphere. The opening party was a great success. In addition to many students a number of special guests were invited. As many international agents attended the Ialc workshop that opened its doors just a day later many of our partners many took the opportunity to drop by and get to know our new school premises personally. A BBQ, some local wine and a DJ made sure that the party did not end until the early morning hours. During the evening the management officially opened the school with a short speech. This increase in capacity is our answer to the groping demand for language travel in South Africa and we are confident that our students will be comfortable on our new premises.”

LAL Torbay's student magazine StopPress now online

StopPress is the monthly magazine produced by LAL Torbay for our students. Each edition of StopPress contains a mix of articles which are designed to inform and entertain. Each edition features a guide to somewhere our students can visit, either the life story of a famous Briton or an interview with one of our staff, and a mix of articles about British traditions, recipes, puzzles, language games and other items we hope will be of interest; although our audience is mainly our students, we hope that we can dig up the odd nugget of information previously unknown to our staff and host families too. We also publish news from LAL Torbay and our sister schools, and a guide to events in Torbay for the coming month. Details of the current edition are now also available online and former editions can be downloaded in pdf format in the Archive section.

Beautiful south west of England

The Language Travel Magazine features an article about the beautiful South West of England in the current June issue - it's definitely worth having a look and finding out what makes the location of our school in Torbay so special: In addition to an abundance of natural attributes like a dramatic coastline, sheltered river valleys, quaint towns and villages, and barren moorland , the south coast has a rich historical legacy. New uniforms for LAL ‘meet and greet’ staff in England

Students travelling to LAL Torbay or LAL Summer Schools on or after 24th June, will be met by our staff when they reach the Arrivals hall in England. Staff will hold signs with either the LAL Torbay or LAL Summer Schools logos. Wherever possible, staff will wear dark blue polo shirts or jackets. Our dark blue polo shirts and jackets have a white LAL logo on the chest and back. From 24th June, staff will NOT wear yellow polo shirts. If students cannot find our staff at the airport they should go to the information desk or telephone the school on + 44 (0)1803 558555.
