| LAL Fort Lauderdale awarded 5 year CEA accreditation We are delighted to announce that the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) confirmed LAL Fort Lauderdale’s accredited status for a period of five years until 2011. Our Managing Director, Tracy Brylweski took time out to explain more about CEA and its significance for the school and our partners. ![]() What is CEA? The Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a national accrediting agency for English language programs and institutions in the USA. This recognition gave CEA the distinction of being the only specialized accrediting agency in the U.S. for the purpose of accrediting English language programs in colleges and universities and independent English language schools. LAL Fort Lauderdale chose CEA because of their specialty in the field of English language program accreditation. In other words an organization focused specifically on the needs of our sector was our preferred option and the rationale behind LAL’s change in accrediting body. What is the process of accreditation? The entire process usually takes about two years to complete, from the self-study to the entire report written on each standard. Then a site visit by team members from CEA and independent agencies is scheduled to verify what has been written in the reports. Afterwards, a detailed report is written based on the outcome of the site visit. Finally, the report is given to the Commission on English Language Programs and a vote is made in regards to accreditation: fail, one year, or 5 year accreditation. Which standards are part of the accrediting process? There are 10 basic standards for English Language Programs and Institutions and within each standard there are other standards: • Mission: written statement and goals of the school • Curriculum • Faculty • Facilities, Equipment and Supplies • Administrative and Fiscal Capacity • Student Services • Recruiting • Length and Structure of Program of Study • Student Achievement • Student Complaints For more information please do not hesitate to contact Marketing & Sales Manager, Ilona Alves, ilona.alves@lalgroup.com. back to top |
| Grand opening of our adult school in Gozo a great success! Our superb new adult school in Gozo successfully opened its doors in May and we've already had some positive feedback from our first students: "I decided to go to Gozo on the recommendation of a friend. I have been looking for an English course especially for adults as I had already participated in other courses in other countries and languages before where most of the students had been so much younger than me. I enjoyed the lessons with both of my teachers and I was very happy about the warm reception by the school’s director. I took part in several leisure activities, such as yoga, an intro-diving – both for the first time – and I discovered every beach or bay on this lovely island with a rented bike. Whatever I did I was surrounded by friendly and helpful people – and so I learned a lot about the Gozitan way of life, too." ![]() Ilka Seifert The school is particularly suitable for adults who prefer a more peaceful and relaxing environment and is open from May to October. Situated on the main road in Ghajnsielem and located on the first floor, the school premises comprise the teaching centre and the student residence. The teaching centre has 10 classrooms (bright and airy) with windows and fans, a video room, administration office and a reception area with vending machine. ![]() classroom ![]() view from roof terrace Students also have access to the roof terrace with its magnificent views of Comino, Fort Chambray and surrounding villages, church spires and picturesque hills. Here students can assemble during break times to chat and relax, study in peace sitting under umbrellas or to stretch out in the sun with a cool drink. It is an ideal area for barbeques and socialising in the evenings. Like the school, the three self-catering apartments on the second floor are brand-new and finished to a high standard throughout. Each apartment has three twin bedrooms with private balconies, a shower room, bathroom, fully fitted kitchen and spacious living area. Students can choose to share a room with another student or have a single room at a supplement. The penthouse on the top floor has just two twin bedrooms, with bathrooms, fully fitted kitchen and private terrace area. ![]() kitchen and living area at residence ![]() room at residence Ghajnsielem, “Spring of Peace”, is an attractive village with a strong sense of community and a thriving social life revolving around its band club, football club and local bars. Unlike an average tourist resort, Ghajnsielem is a proper village equipped with a post office, chemist, butcher, baker, fish shop, and grocer for daily needs. Nearby Mgarr harbour has a good selection of restaurants and wonderfully easy access to Comino and Malta.
