| Refurbishment of reception & student lounge at IELS The refurbishment of the reception and student lounge at LAL Sliema has been in the pipeline for sometime now and work has started this month. The existing toilets on the ground floor will be totally refurbished, new toilets for females will be installed in a new area and structural work will also be carried out to expand the reception area and allow easy access from the reception to the cafeteria. This will expand the student lounge to almost twice the size. The Leisure & Welfare office and the bookshop will also be relocated and have new modern furniture. ![]() artist's impression of new student lounge A new Internet café will be set up and 20 PCs with flat screens, earphones and telephone sets should be available by mid-February. The self-study centre on the first floor will also be upgraded with 4 PCs with multi-media options and earphones. The Internet café PCs will be available against nominal payment, while those in the self-study centre will be free of charge. A WIFI area will also be available in the Internet café and students who bring their own laptop will be able to go online wireless. Only the Internet café and ground floor toilets will be out of use for the next 6-8 weeks, but there are toilets on each floor in both blocks. The bookshop has been temporarily transferred to the first floor. Works, including the installation of new air-conditioning, lighting, ceiling fittings, painting, etc, commenced earlier this month and will go on for 6-8 weeks. ![]() artist's impression of new reception area The area where we have work going on, which is on the ground floor, will be cordoned off, however, classrooms are on the first floor and above and we will be taking measures to minimize disturbance. We apologise for any inconvenience that the above may cause. We hope that with the above improvements our school will have a fresh looking and modern reception and lounge area for the numerous students that we have throughout the year. Next winter, we plan to invest in another refurbishment project to improve the classrooms but more news about this exciting development later on. New for 2006 at LAL Sliema: • New Internet café with 20 PCs and WIFI (wireless) area • Self-study center with books, cassettes and multi-media resources • Refurbished reception and comfortable student lounge • Refurbished Leisure & Welfare office • Refurbished Bookshop For a summary of the changes please contact Isabella Conti at isabella.conti@lalgroup.com with any questions you may have! back to top |

| What our students say about IELS Irene Valeeva from Russia: ![]() IELS – what does this acronym tell you about? Institute of English Language Studies Just another school of thousands of similar ones. But try to look behind this dry, unemotional abbreviation (IELS), try to hear its heart beating – rational managing structure, to feel its blood flowing – enthusiastic teaching personnel, to measure its pulse beating – continuous flood of comers and goers, and these letters will turn into Intelligent Encouraging Loving Staff That’s how I regard it now, having spent 5 months in Malta. 5 months, full of joy, happiness and pleasure with the growing number of friends. 5 months, full of humour, enthusiasm, warmth and, of course, knowledge that the teachers gave me as an irreplaceable present for the rest of my life. I don’t know whether I will come to Malta again, but what I know for sure is that I will always cherish the memory of my unforgettable stay with IELS. Seyit Ali Topac from Turkey: ![]() Island of Dreams While I was searching for some information about Malta on the internet, I learnt that they call this country “Stone City”. This is the most beautiful island of the Mediterranean. Tourism is the most important thing in Malta. In this little island you can feel very surprised and it’s a thrilling island because it’s very cultural. I’ve studied English for four months and I have improved my English a lot in this time. I met a lot of people from other countries. In Turkey I have no possibility of meeting foreign people, however, Malta is the best place to meet various people and cultures. I recommend Malta for studying English to everyone because Teaching English! (probably nobody does it better!) Oh Seung Hyun from Korea: ![]() It is my first journey abroad. When I arrived here in Malta on 9th January, I was so worried because I didn’t know what I should do. Everything, including weather, people, food and life style etc., is different from Korea. However, after 2 weeks, I am accustomed to stay in Malta. Now I have a lot of friends who are from various countries. It is exciting to have foreign friends, I think. And my teachers have taught me perfect grammar and exact expressions even if I have studied English for a long time in Korea, I have never had any opportunities to speak English. On the other hand, here in Malta, I should speak only English, which is important to learn English. Malta is a very historical country which has a lot of famous places. I have visited many places, Mdina, Valletta, Blue Grotto and so on, with my friends. When I come back to Korea, I hope my English is much better! Please remember – opportunity seldom knocks twice !! back to top |
