| Detailed schedule for FREE famtrips to Malta and Torbay in October The best way to improve or start a collaboration is to see partners schools for yourselves and to meet and get to know the people working in the schools. In order for you to share in the exciting developments taking place throughout the LAL Group we have decided to open our doors to our partners - existing and new - by holding a famtrip in October 2006. Partners are invited to attend either or both Malta and Torbay. LAL will cover the costs of accommodation and transport in both Malta and Torbay* (*flights NOT included in package)  LAL Malta  Azure Window, Gozo In Malta visit the newly refurbished premises of our main school in Sliema, visit our brand new centre in Gozo and learn about exciting new programmes such as our pathway programme for students wishing to study at the University of Malta. In the UK take the chance to see the renovated all purpose centre in Torbay and our residential summer centres in Taunton, Somerset (new for 2007) and the upgraded Kelly College in Tavistock, Devon. | New beach club at LAL Malta Our students in Malta have been able to participate in some extra fun this summer - our new Tigne beach club! Free membership is included in all the bookings. It is only 5 minutes away from the Sliema school by the seaside!   Tigne beach club The club offers lots of fun and entertainment - you can swim in the sea or in the swimming-pool filled with sea water, snorkelling is very popular with our students and you can book your diving here. A bar sells a vast range of ice creams, refreshments, tea, coffee and snacks and chilled relaxing music provides a great atmosphere. Opening hours are 09.30 to 18.30 7 days a week and on Saturday night a pool party is organized.Aqua aerobics on WEdnesdays has also proven very popular! Every fortnight a pool party is organized for the teens with group dances and fun games - there are lots of prizes to win! | Malta: Special visa for students The government will be issuing a special visa for foreign students following courses in Malta. The visa will be issued to students following courses in Malta, including language courses, for a period of one year. Students may be required to make an appearance at the Immigration Dept during the course of their stay but the visa will be issued for a maximum period of one year. To date, visas were renewed every three months. The visa is renewable for another year, or for the duration of the course, whichever is the shortest period. back to top |

| LAL Torbay: Teacher Training LAL Torbay is proud of being a centre of academic excellence. Involved in training teachers of English as a Foreign Language since 1990, we are currently one of the few schools in Devon, in the South West of England, training native English speaking teachers on the Cambridge approved CELTA course (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults). In addition, having established ourselves as a centre for Initial Teacher Training, in 2005 we began teaching the Cambridge approved DELTA course (Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults) becoming the only registered training centre in the South West of England. This expansion to our curriculum has allowed practising teachers to continue to develop skills and obtain higher qualifications. The team of six qualified trainers is lead by Lucy Gubbin, our Head of Teacher Training. Lucy has an MA in Linguistics from the University of Essex, a PGCE in TEFL and a degree from University College London, is herself a CELTA and DELTA trainer and also a CELTA Assessor registered with the Cambridge University ESOL. She is also an IELTS examiner. Lucy feels that the management of quality and accredited teacher training courses in LAL Torbay has had a dramatic impact on the quality of both staff and courses.
