Class Information

On the first Monday morning students should come to the LAL Gozo centre in Ghajnsielem at the time indicated on the Welcome Pack envelope that is given to every student upon arrival at the airport. The envelope will include a map of Ghajnsielem showing the school’s location. The Welcome Pack also includes a test, which should be completed and brought to the school.

All new students will be welcomed by the Course Coordinator who will check the test and, after a brief interview, place the students into a suitable class for their level. Students are then given a course book and a timetable detailing names of teachers and classrooms.

Morning lessons run from 9am to 12.30pm and afternoon lessons from 1 – 2.30pm. Breaks are from 10.30-11am and 12.30 to 1pm. This timetable runs from Monday to Friday and only changes if there is a public holiday during the week.

During the breaks students are free to speak to the Course Coordinator about any matters regarding tuition, accommodation or leisure.

Island Information

Location
Gozo is known to be more fertile, more picturesque and far more unspoilt than its big sister – a place to relax and appreciate the beauty of life at a slower pace but with many places to explore and discover by land and sea.

All thirteen villages in Gozo reflect a way of life that is simultaneously rural and refined. Dedication to the cultivation of the land is still evident, as in the beautiful Lunzjata Valley while the impressive dimensions of the churches reveal a deep dedication of the soul. Ta’Pinu Basilica and Xewkija Church are magnificent and wondrous but many of the smaller chapels are also remarkable.

Gozo’s coastline is amazing with its wealth of tiny creeks, turquoise bays, rocky and sandy beaches, spectacular cliffs and rock formations. Visiting Gozo also means discovering the magical island of Comino famous for the crystal clear waters of the Blue Lagoon, ideal for swimmers, snorkellers or simple sun-seekers

The island is 14 km long by 7.25 km wide with a population of only 31,000.

Transportation

In Gozo, the bus terminus is in Main Gate Street, Victoria. Buses in Gozo are grey with a central red band and show the route number on the front.

Gozo buses operate along circular routes, leaving from and returning to Victoria without scheduled stops at termini. A regular service runs to and from Mgarr, route 25, and is timed to coincide with the ferry timetable. The bus fare is 20c to any destination and there are stops in both directions just outside LAL Gozo.

It is possible to cross over to Malta from Mgarr Harbour. Gozo Channel's fleet of ferries are regular and take approx 25 minutes. The fare is Lm2 return and the harbour is a 5 minute walk from LAL Gozo.

Taxis are easily organised by the school at a standard fare of Lm4-5 between most places on the island. Most students share transport to beaches or resorts which makes the ride very good value.

Leaving Mgarr the number 25 bus takes you directly to the island’s capital, Victoria, where you can wander through the narrow winding streets, sip a cappuccino in one of the many picturesque squares and shop for souvenirs. Visit the centuries old Citadel from where you have a stunning view of the Island, with fertile valleys radiating from the hill on which the fortification stands and take a look at the beautiful cathedral and museums hidden behind the austere bastions.

The direction you take out of Victoria will depend on which attractions lure you; the superb megalithic temples of Ggantija, the beautiful red sands of Ramla Bay, coastal walks along Ta’ Cenc cliffs or perhaps the dramatic splendour of the Azure window, Fungus Rock and the intriguing Inland Sea at Dwejra Bay. Gozo is a paradise for all types of walker from the casual stroller to the committed rambler with routes that take them past astounding saltpans, into valleys and across fields bursting with seasonal produce and through village centres with typical farmhouses graced by original arches and more contemporary houses with their embellished balconies.

Student Visa Information

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has a list available of all foreigners who do not require a visa to visit Malta.

All other foreign nationals who are not listed must apply for a Visa for Malta, which is issued by the Immigration Police.

All foreigners who are currently residing in countries where there is an Embassy, High Commission or Consulate of Malta should preferably apply at any of these offices where applications are processed and visas may be issued or refused.

If a student is residing in a country where no Maltese Embassy/High Commission or Consulate exists, the student may contact the Honorary Consul for Malta in order to be able to apply for the Visa. Honorary Consuls are not authorised to issue Visas but they can assist the student by contacting the Immigration Police to forward the Visa application and other relevant documents that might be required.

Where there is no official Maltese representation in a country, the student should apply directly to the Immigration Police in Malta, with whom the student should check all the requirements that are relevant to his/her passport. The student may obtain the required Visa Form for Entry into Malta by simply downloading it from Malta Government’s website, fill it in, and fax it to the Immigration Police in Malta together with a photocopy of the passport of the student and other requested documents. Our Reservations staff can also assist you by submitting the completed application form to the Immigration Police on your behalf, together with a copy of the passport of the student and other relevant documents, such as letter of acceptance and invoice/receipt.

The Immigration Police would then issue a statement, which we would fax to you to give to the student, indicating whether the application for Visa has been approved or otherwise. In the case of approval, the student should present the statement to the airline before proceeding to Malta. The student should then present the statement, a passport photo and pay the applicable fee (currently Lm10) at the Passport Control in Malta to be issued with a visa upon arrival at the Malta International Airport.
