Your Lessons

First Day

On your first day you should come to the school at the time indicated on the student card at the front of this student handbook.

After a short presentation, you will sit for a placement test followed by a brief interview in order for us to determine your level and place you in the class best suited to you. You will then be allocated a class with a teacher and begin your first lesson.

We ask you not to write in your course book for the first two days, as sometimes nerves, tiredness or other factors can affect the result of your placement test, and it might be necessary to change your level.

During the break on your first day there will be a welcome meeting at which you will be given information about Malta and more specific information about the leisure activities available.

Lessons

The first session during the day is course book based and concentrates on structural/functional input. The second session concentrates on developing fluency and communication skills. Some courses also have a third session which aims to consolidate the language covered in the morning sessions.

If you have a one-to-one lesson in the afternoon you can discuss and plan the contents of the lesson with your teacher according to your personal needs and objectives.

Methodology

We use the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) method in our classes which uses verbal communication in English as the main learning tool and guarantees maximum use of the language, even at low levels. You will learn new vocabulary and grammar and have plenty of opportunity to practice using the language, which will help you to gain confidence and competence to communicate in English.

Certificate

You will receive a certificate of attendance at the end of your course indicating the type and length of course you have attended. More detailed certificates are available if required but must be requested from the reception desk at least 3 days prior to the end of your course. To fully benefit from your course all sessions should be attended. A daily attendance record is kept and if too many sessions are missed, we will not be able to issue the certificate of attendance.
