Leisure and Area

We believe that learning English should be fun, whether you are in or out of class. LAL provides a varied and exciting range of social and cultural leisure activities, which are an integral part of the academic programme package. Weekly leisure activity programmes are designed specifically to suit the various age groups which attend courses at LAL Gozo.

About Gozo

Malta's sister Island of Gozo is just a half-hour ferry ride from the northernmost tip of Malta. Gozo is greener, more rural and smaller than Malta, and has its own distinct character and relaxed atmosphere. Far away from the fast pace of day to day living, Gozo gives you time to kick back, soak up the sun and enjoy the islands unique atmosphere and spectacular beauty.

The island's tranquil towns and villages are picturesque and still uphold many traditions. The countryside has an amazing variety of scenery, from rocky hillsides, past carobs and prickly pears, through quiet valleys to wind-swept cliffs and down to the salt pans and beaches.

Leisure Programme

Here at our English school in Gozo we offer a programme of regular leisure activities so that students can be sure that if they choose not to take a trip one week, they will be able to join it the following week.  Aside from these trips and tours there are always impromptu dinners, celebrations and special events which come up at different times during the season.

Leisure Activities in Gozo

Gozo is the natural choice for adult language learners who want to carry out their learning experience in a peaceful and relaxing environment. It is an island full of modest beauty and spectacle and inhabited by people who make it their business to welcome visitors and share the wealth of good fortune that nature has bestowed on them. Students find that this island strikes a perfect balance between offering plenty of diversions without having too many distractions so that they can study steadily and effectively while still enjoying a truly satisfying holiday.

What can I do in the evening?

Evenings are very much for eating together in good company. Twice a week the school organises a dinner in various locations; the lively resort of Marsalforn or the smaller, quieter Xlendi Bay or perhaps the beautiful creek of Mgarr Ix-Xini. There is always a member of the teaching staff at these outings so that students have the opportunity to speak English!

Students also enjoy meeting up on foot at one of the many restaurants or several bars in Mgarr harbour, at the D-Bar in Qala or Il-Bukket with its superb views of Comino or perhaps choose to eat a simple pizza from the local Band Club in Ghanjnsielem. Alternatively many students like to cook together in the school residence and have impromptu parties which can be great fun.

Once a week there is an outing to the citedel Cinema to watch a fim in English and perhaps then go clarifications! There are two screens and the films are current and change on a weekly basis.

Nightlife is largely centred in the bars and clubs in Marsalforn where there is The Rock, a converted Fort overlooking the sea and Xlendi, which has La Grotta, a natural cave overlooking a valley rich with bamboo. For those students who want a change of pace for Saturday night Mgarr harbour is just a short walk away to catch a ferry and head for the hot spot of Paceville!

In the height of summer there is an evening boat trip with BBQ to Comino which is always a popular night for music and fun under the stars.

The Maltese Islands are famous for the village festas held in a different village every weekend from April through to September. Each village celebrates with processions, brass bands and fireworks and all the villagers participate in this truly festive occasion.
