St Mary’s College runs for 8 weeks from 24 June to 19 August 2012.
Students can attend for one, two, three or four weeks.
We also offer split-centre courses where students can stay in two different centres. Contact us for more information on this alternative way of spending a summer with LAL.
LAL Summer Schools has adopted a task-based syllabus, which has been designed in order to present new language in addition to consolidating learners’ existing knowledge. The topics chosen for each project have been meticulously selected to ensure that learners are actively stimulated throughout the course, whilst having ample opportunities to utilise the language in both controlled and freer practice sessions. Each lesson will focus on a communicative approach developing learners’ productive and receptive skills. All course materials are provided, including an LAL Workbook.
The first day of the course is regarded as information and introduction day and all students take the Placement test.
During the introductory morning the new students will be able to meet the key people involved in their stay such as the Activity Programme Manager, Welfare Assistants and activity staff and are shown the important, relevant aspects of the town.
The activities take place both during the day and in the evenings, and are supervised by our activity staff. The activity staff are also available for any questions or problems (host families, illness, general information) you might have.
The groups are generally of mixed nationalities in order to encourage the students to speak in English rather than their mother tongue and to make new friends and learn about other cultures.
Teaching staff will check attendance during lessons and welfare if applicable, will establish the reasons for any absenteeism with the host family. If the same student is absent without a valid reason for two days, the parents will be informed.
80% of lessons must be attended for all visa student.
