Extended stay or Long-stay?

Please note that the classification of long-stay courses is different at IELS from other LAL language centres in 2010. At IELS, courses from 8 to 15 weeks are classified as "Extended Stay". Courses from 16 weeks to 48 weeks are classified as "Long-stay".

In 2011 all LAL language centres classify 8 weeks + as 'Academic Long-stay'.

If your goal is to make significant progress towards English language fluency then our Academic Long-stay Programme is the ideal option. A semester or a year-long study abroad programme is a tried and tested formula for thousands of students worldwide!

Flexible start dates

By offering the option of starting any Monday of the year you can plan your studies according to your own needs. Start when it suits you!

As long as you want

You can follow the programme for a semester (12 weeks), for the full academic year (32 weeks) or even a calendar year, whatever best fits your work or study schedules. Study for as long as you can!

Your individual needs are our priority

All students on the Extended and Long Stay Programmes are given monthly progress tests and a written report from their teacher. Levels start from beginner english upwards.

A stepping stone to university

We have a comprehensive university placement service to assist with the choice of and application process to the university of your choice.

Free upgrades

In 2010 we will offer students on Long-stay courses (16 weeks +) free upgrades to business and examination classes (subject to level and availability) enabling you to collect internationally recognised certificates such as Cambridge FCE, CAE and CPE.

In 2011 all programmes include university placement service, progress tests and tutorials. Students on Intensive courses are eligible for free upgrades to business, executive and examination courses (FCE, CAE, CPE & IELTS) subject to level and availability. Premium long-stay programmes also include four private tuition lessons per week. Students on Premium Academic Long-stay programmes of 12 weeks + receive a free netbook computer to keep.

Summary of courses

Long-stay General: 20 lessons per week, max 12 students per class 8/16 weeks +, all levels. The Academic Long-stay Programmes of 8 weeks + (16 weeks + in 2010) are ideal for those students who want to improve their English to achieve real language fluency in order to study or work in an English speaking country, with the option to upgrade to business and exam classes.
Premium General + Private: 20 lessons GE per week plus 4 private lessons, max 6 students per class 8 weeks +, all levels. The Premium Academic Long-stay Programmes with extra private tuition are ideal for those students who want to improve their English to achieve real language fluency in order to study or work in an English speaking country.
Long-stay Intensive: 30 lessons per week, max 12 students per class, all levels, 8 weeks + (16 weeks + in 2010). Our Long-stay Intensive English course will help you to build your confidence in the different language skills, listening, writing, reading and speaking. Students on the Long-stay Programme can change to a Business English or Exam preparation course if they reach an intermediate level, depending on availability of these courses.
Premium Intensive + Private: 30 GE lessons per week and 4 private tuition lesson per week, max 6 students per class, all levels, 8 weeks +. Our Premium Long-stay Intensive English course will help you to build your confidence in the different language skills, listening, writing, reading and speaking. Students on the Long-stay Programme can change to a Business English or Exam preparation course if they reach an intermediate level, depending on availability of these courses. Free netbook for stays of 12 weeks or more.
